THE STEADINGS & TAYVALLICH

No. 3 The Steadings is a luxury 4 star Scottish Tourist Board rated self-catering cottage located midway between the remote picturesque village of Tayvallich which curves around a lagoon at the head of Loch Sween, and Carsaig Bay which commands breathtaking views of the Sound of Jura on the West of Mainland Scotland.

Tayvallich and Carsaig are separated by some 15 nautical miles by sea but by only one mile by road. Carsaig and Tayvallich are part of the same close-knit but highly cosmopolitan and friendly community of some 200 people. We are, however, only two hours drive from Glasgow Airport.

Tayvallich is a mecca for yachtsmen and features all water-sports. The village enjoys a renowned and friendly seafood restaurant (also excellent bar-meals) and is an ideal location for walking and cycling holidays being close to numerous forest walks and wildlife reserves. The Village Shop (with coffee shop) is very well stocked and will be pleased to accept special orders for our guests. The village also has a high quality outdoor sports court (complete with floodlighting) in a fantastic setting by the bay for tennis, five a side football, basketball and shinty. This facility is available to visitors at modest cost; bookings can be made at the sports court.

The area is an integral part of the ancient history of Scotland from the incursions of the Vikings only a thousand years ago to older times with many examples of Pictish standing stones close by in Kilmartin Glen.

Tayvallich is 6 miles from the Crinan Canal (opened some 200 years ago) which joins the Clyde Estuary to the West Coast of Scotland. Crinan is only 20 minutes drive from Tayvallich and also enjoys a first-class hotel and restaurant overlooking the sea-lock of the Canal to the wild beauty of the Inner Hebrides. Boat trips are available from Crinan and from nearby Ardfern. The Cairnbaan Hotel on the Crinan Canal also offers excellent meals.

THE SPACE

The Steadings itself enjoys a magnificent vista to the West with breathtaking sunsets and moonscapes (weather permitting!). Sliding windows in the sitting room open up onto the patio - with outdoor bench, seats, table and deck-chairs - overlooking its own ‘Babbling Brook’ immediately below the cottage.

What's included

Pets

Well-behaved pets are welcome (maximum two) for a small charge of £15 each per stay, but we ask customers take reasonable steps to ensure dirt is not brought into the cottage.

Not permitted inside the house.

Other

The owner Ulla lives very close-by and will normally be available to assist in the unlikely event of any problem. If she is away at the time of your stay she will nominate a friend to be available and will provide you with contact details before your arrival.

RATES & RESERVATIONS

We offer stays for a minimum of two nights during most of the year, discounts for stays of a week or more and discounts for guests using only one bedroom in the low season. Please see below for more details.

Note, that in the summer months during the high season we require that reservations start and end on a Saturday. Feel free to contact us should you wish for to start or end your reservation on other days of the week. For the rest of the year, reservations can be made to start and end on any day of the week.

All prices shown below are per day / per week per party. The weekly rates shown include an automatic 10% discount on the combined daily rate. All prices are inclusive of VAT – we are not VAT registered.

Alternatively, if you wish to book and/or pay over the phone, please contact us using the details below. In addition to cards, we accept cheques and BACS bank transfer.

All bookings are subject to receipt of your deposit and when the funds are cleared you will have written confirmation by letter or e-mail. We request that the full balance of your rental is paid 28 days before arrival, and if the booking is made within 28 days of your arrival date we request full payment up front.

Longer stays

We offer a 10% discount for any stay 7 days or longer. If guests require a change of bedding and towels during their stay an additional charge of £30 is payable during the course of their visit (this can also be paid in advance at the time of booking)

Stays for couples or twin guests in the low season

In the low season (periods when our daily rates in the table above are set at £76 per night), we offer a £16 dicount per night when only one bedroom is used during your stay. Therefore our rate becomes £60 per night. To secure this offer please contact us using the contact details below.

Cancellation policy

Should you have to cancel the booking we will refund your deposit in full up to 28 days before your scheduled arrival date. After this date, we will only be able to refund your deposit should we succeed in rebooking the period of hire.

Check-in and check-out

We will get in touch with you in advance of your stay with details for your arrival and any other useful information. Check in time is from 3pm on your arrival day with check-out by 10am on departure date, unless by prior arrangement and we will be as flexible as possible.

GETTING HERE

By car. Tayvallich is located approximately 12 miles (20km) away from Lochgilphead, the nearest town, and where you are likely to pass through if coming from the East. From Lochgilphead, follow signs for Oban initially on the A816 and then for Tayvallich on the B841 / B8025.

By bus. Scottish Citylink / West Coast Motors service 926 operates between Glasgow Buchanan Bus Station and Lochgilphead and on to Campbeltown. West Coast Motors service 423 runs between Oban and Lochgilphead. Local service 425 runs between Lochgilphead and Tayvallich and Carsaig. By plane. Glasgow International Airport is located approximately 90 miles (145km) or 2 hours away by car along the A82 / A83. Check out Skyscanner for the best flight deals to Glasgow and Scotland.

By ferry. Oban Ferry Terminal is located approximately 40 miles (65km) or 1 hour 15 minutes away by car along the A816. Caledonian MacBrayne operates regular services to Mull, the Outer Hebrides and other islands. Also from Kennacraig to the Isle of Islay.
